TE Connectivity AL/CU Shear Bolt Elbow Connectors
TE Connectivity’s (TE) Shear Bolt Terminals ELB-600-CONN are range-taking mechanical connectors. With only 5 connector sizes, a conductor range from #2 compact to 1500 kcmil in aluminum, and #2 compact to 1250 kcmil in copper concentric, stranded class B can be accommodated. The primary application of the aluminum shear bolt is for 600A Deadbreak Elbow terminations and the copper shear bolt is for 900A Deadbreak Elbow terminations, for voltages up to 35 kV.
The aluminum shear bolt is ideally suited for making aluminum or copper cable connections, and the copper shear bolt is suited for copper cable connections only. The bore of the connector body has a uniquely-grooved surface to enhance electrical contact and minimize resistance at the interface between the terminal and the conductor. The cable entry area is chamfered inside for easy cable insertion.
The terminal design incorporates a shear bolt head, ensuring the correct torque is applied to each bolt, so optimal contact force is generated. The primary tool required to install the connector is a standard ratchet wrench with appropriate hexagonal sockets.
